For immediate release: Women's Network PEI applauds the provincial government's decision to reduce barriers to women's access to abortion.

Charlottetown, PEI — Women's Network PEI applauds the provincial government's decision to reduce barriers to women's access to abortion.

"This is the most significant movement in the fight for improved access to abortion services in 30 years," said Executive Director, Sara Roach-Lewis. "This is an excellent first step."

"We would also like assurances that appropriate follow-up care will be provided by the PEI medical community."

Women's Network will be closely following how the new protocols and policies will be working over the next few months. They hope to work with government to evaluate how this change is working for local women.

Women's Network would also like to see improved access to medical abortions on PEI as well as clear and easy access to information as complimentary steps to the government's announcement today.

"While we would prefer to see local access on PEI, this will make a significant change in the lives of many women seeking abortion services." said Roach-Lewis.
