A New Initiative to Engage Island Youth: The Hub PEI
The Women's Network PEI Speakers Bureau
The Hub PEI provides a platform for young Islanders who are passionate about advancing gender equality and girls rights. Youth of all genders are welcome to join.
Women's Network PEI is excited to launch a new initiative for Island youth, The Hub PEI. The Hub PEI is a Speakers Bureau, the format for engaging youth created by Plan Canada and first launched in Toronto, Ontario. Women's Network PEI recently received funding to be one of six pilot sites implementing youth hubs outside of the Toronto area. The Speakers Bureau/Hub provides a platform for young people across Canada who are passionate about advancing gender equality and girls rights. Youth of all genders are welcome to join.
What is The Hub PEI?
The Hub PEI is a place for youth to:
- Speak their mind, explore topics that matter to them, and to connect with like-minded youth;
- Explore issues that they are passionate about in a group setting while working on their public speaking skills, confidence building, and leadership potential; and
- Have an opportunity to present on topics of interest in a public forum that is comfortable and safe.
The Hub participants will also engage in conflict resolution discussions and communication training.
How it Works
The Hub PEI will meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at Women’s Network PEI offices starting in February 2019. Food will be provided during meetings and travel support is available if that’s a barrier for any youth to participate.
